Biography
       John Rimel was born in Charlottesville, Virginia in 1947 on April 13th (a birthday he shares with local legend, Thomas Jefferson). After serving in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict, he earned a BA in English with a primary focus in creative writing from the University of Virginia. He and his family make their home at his childhood residence in Charlottesville.

       John has been writing songs since he first began piano lessons at the age of seven. He was a winner in the American Song Festival and the Music City Song Festival. He secured his first of many album cuts on the Statler Brothers' 1983 release, Today. Since that time John has had songs recorded on six Top 10 albums, including a Billboard number 1 country album. His impressive songwriting credits include co-writing with Jimmy Fortune "More Than A Name On A Wall," a top 10 hit, nationally awarded by BMI and named the 1990 TNN/MCN Country Song of the Year. John's songs have been performed on national cable and network televesion. Along with Bruce Hornsby sideman, Bobby Read, and Gary Green, he co-wrote "Decadel," a song Gary performed in winning the International Harmonica Championships in Great Britain.

        In 2003 John collaborated with Jimmy Fortune to pen five new songs for Jimmy's debut album, When One Door Closes, for Nashville-based Audium records. John's first solo effort, a self-titled gospel CD, was released in 2004 on Oxford Hill Records and is available for sale. (see merchandise) All the songs (see LYRICS) have been written for his second project, Pieces of Dixie, a secular collection with a cultural focus on the South.

       Throughout his career, John has performed in bands of almost every musical genre, as well as in acoustic duos and trios. An excellent keyboardist, he is in demand as a session player and has lent his talents to many studio recordings. He has performed his songs in concert with artists as diverse as Hall & Oates and Earl Scruggs. Currently John appears solo at select venues. (see performance)
