The Bell

Many years ago on Christmas eve
When I was very young,
I lay awake and listened for
Santa Claus to come,
And just before I fell asleep
I thought I heard his sleigh
Echo through the magic night
From, oh, so far away.

On Christmas morning out in our yard,
I looked around and found
A tiny, tarnished silver bell,
Lying on the ground;
I took it to my dad and asked,
"Is this from Santa's sleigh?"
And the words he told me then
I remember to this day.

He said, "Son, if you believe it's true,
Then it surely is for you,
Two thousand years it's been that way,
And today it still holds true;
So have a little faith
In the things you cannot see,
'Cause Christmas is for those of us
Who truly do believe."

Many years until the time was right
I held onto the bell,
This Christmas my boy found it,
And he ran to me to tell;
I saw the magic in his eyes
And knew that he believed,
So I passed along my father's words
As he had done to me.

I said, "Son, if you believe it's true,
Then it surely is for you,
Two thousand years it's been that way,
And today it still holds true;
So have a little faith
In the things you cannot see,
'Cause Christmas is for those of us
Who truly do believe.
Christmas is for all of us
Who truly do believe.
